Constant Motion

You’re constantly moving – pivoting, accelerating, lunging, twisting and turning – which explains why squash players are known for their powerful quads, lean physique and core strength. The brain gets a workout too.

Good to know

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?

The game made its debut in 19th-century London's Fleet Prison as a form of exercise, eventually finding its way to Harrow School For Boys. They gave it the name "squash" due to the sound it produced. Initially, it was confined to upper-class circles, but now, this fast-paced game is embraced and enjoyed by everyone.

NEED FOR SPEED

Squash is known for its fast-paced gameplay. The ball can reach speeds of over 170 miles per hour (275 km/h), making it one of the fastest racquet sports. What does that mean? You’ve got to be quick too.

DIFFERENT BALL, DIFFERENT GAME

Squash balls are available in various colors, each indicating their speed and bounce characteristics. The three main colors are double yellow, yellow, and red, with double yellow being the slowest. Pros use the slowest balls because they require a lot more skill and precision to play well.

WHY SO SMALL?

A squash court's relatively small dimensions create a compact playing area where players must constantly engage with the walls, as the ball bounces off them during the game. This means that players have to be agile, quick on their feet and make rapid decisions, which adds an element of excitement to every rally.
