Good to know

WOMEN KILLING IT ON THE COURT

Gender equality is big in basketball. Women's basketball has grown in popularity and recognition, with the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) providing a platform for female athletes to showcase their skills.

REACH NEW HEIGHTS

Basketball is known for having some of the tallest athletes in the world. Many NBA players stand well over 7 feet tall, but height is not the only factor that contributes to a player's success. You’ve got to have skill, speed, strength and a solid basketball IQ.

ACTIVISM ON THE COURTS

Basketball players have used their platform to advocate for social change, addressing issues such as racial equality, education, and community development. More than athletes, players have become cultural icons.

WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH THE BALL?

The first basketballs were actually soccer balls, making dribbling near impossible. It wasn't until 1942 that a basketball with the now-familiar pebbled surface was introduced.
